It was a warm summer morning and Andrew woke up from his bed. All the orphans were sleeping but Andrew was an "early bird" as the other orphans called him. He put on his grey shirt, his light blue pants, and his white sneakers and descended down the stairs from the second floor to the kitchen of the first floor.
"Good morning, Andrew," greeted him the headmistress politely.
"Good morning, miss," Andrew greeted her back.
"I made ham and eggs for breakfast," informed the headmistress.
"Cool," smiled Andrew as he quickly picked up a plate, a fork, and a knife.
The headmistress gave Andrew his breakfast which he devoured but savored with pleasure.
"So, what are you going to do this day, Andrew?" asked the headmistress.
"I'm going to walk around town," responded Andrew as he took a napkin to wipe his mouth.
"I don't think that's a good idea, Andrew," mumbled the headmistress with disapproval and concern. "You're too young to go out by yourself."
"Miss, I'm thirteen years old," reminded her Andrew. His birthday had been a couple of weeks ago and on that day she had told him that he was now a man.
"Just promise to return back safely," sighed the headmistress with worry. "I don't want you to get hurt by some criminal."
"Don't worry, Mistress," smiled Andrew as he hugged her goodbye. "I'll be back in a flash." He waved at her as he opened the door, pass through it and closed it.
Andrew jump down the three steps of the stairs that connected the orphanage to the street and began his stroll. It was the first time he was walking around town all by himself and he was lucky to have done it on such a beautiful day.
This is the good thing, Andrew thought as he curtly nodded to the citizens that were walking by his side and in front of him. Now I have to wait for the bad thing. Ever since Andrew's mother died when he was born, Andrew classified days by the occurrence of good or bad things that happened to him. His birthday was a normal day because even though he was given a delicious chocolate cake he spent most of it on the bathroom due to laxatives put on by a girl that he rejected.
As Andrew kept on walking, he was suddenly grabbed by his shirt into an alley, surrounded by a group of muggers. Now that I think about it, thought Andrew as he counted the number of criminals that were pinning him down and desperately trying to calculate if he had a chance of beating them. This must be the bad thing.
Before he could ask what was happening, Andrew was pistol whipped across the face, splitting his lip and making blood come out of his mouth. He was going to cry out but was punched in the stomach with so much strength that the wind came out of him. Next, a boot stomped his head into the floor and before he could say something, he was being beaten by the seven muggers that kidnapped him. They took his wallet once they were through with him and let the poor kid surrounded in a pool of his own blood. Sadly, the beating was severe and the injuries he sustained lethal. Andrew was going to die in a few minutes.
I cannot die, thought Andrew with calm composure. For every bad thing that happens to me a good thing must happen too. I won't die until something good happens to me.
"I like your attitude, kid," said a deep voice inside Andrew's voice.
"Who are you?" asked the dying boy on the alley. "Are you God?" It was a stupid question to ask but since he was dying and he found the voice to be powerful it was worth to try.
"Not your God but a god," answered the voice.
"What do you want with me?" asked Andrew.
"You are unique," began the voice. "Your heart is pure light surrounded in darkness." He made a white heart that was surrounded with some sort of black mist. "No human is capable of such balance. That's why I'll give you powers."
"Powers?" asked Andrew in confusion.
"The ultimate magic created by light and darkness," responded the voice. "This is the original magic that gave birth to others. The power of creation and destruction now belongs to you."
In an abandoned warehouse, the muggers are disappointed by their crime. They found only $20 dollars on his wallet. All that ass-whooping they gave was for nothing.
"I told you we should have demanded a ransom!" yelled one of the muggers.
"Shut up!" ordered the leader. "If we had demanded a ransom the police would have captured us. We are only limited to kidnapping, assault, and robbery. Any little prize is worth something."
"I'm glad you think that way," said Andrew's voice from the entrance.
The muggers were surprised that Andrew was still alive. He was still covered in blood and bruises but was acting as if they were just decorations.
"What you did to me hurt," informed Andrew with a serious tone of voice. "I'll give you to the count of three to apologize or you'll suffer a fate worse than hell."
In response to that threat, the leader took his gun and shoot at Andrew's head. To his surprise, the bullet did not hit the intended target. He shot again but this time the bullet did not disappear. It had hid the mugger that was behind Andrew.
"What in the world is happening here?" said the leader, horrified at the freaky miracle that just happened.
"One down and six to go," informed Andrew. He looked at three muggers on his right side and sprinted towards them. He materialized some sort of ethereal sword which he used to decapitate his first opponent. His head flew on the air before disappearing along with the body before it hit the ground. The second mugger received a blow to the stomach that pierced through him. The third mugger tried to run away but Andrew had materialized on his way with the mugger's gun on his pants. He quickly drew it gunslinger style and shoot him right between the eyes.
The muggers at his left started shooting nonstop in an attempt to kill Andrew. To their surprise, even though the bullets hit his body, Andrew was healing as if he had been attacked by a tiny fly. He walked calmly to them and erased their guns out of existence.
"You put your heart in those guns," said Andrew with apathy. "So I'll put the guns in your hearts." He materialized the guns under their hearts and made them shoot. Their hearts exploded and their blood flew upward through the hole the bullets drilled on their shoulders.
The lead mugger was now scared beyond reasoning. He was crawling away from Andrew who was walking calmly towards him.
"Please, spare me!" begged the lead mugger, looking at Andrew with fear.
"You had no mercy with me on that alley," retorted Andrew. His brown eyes took a golden color that instigated more fear into his heart. "So I won't give you any mercy." He morphed into a large humanoid dragon that destroyed all of his clothes in an instant.
The lead mugger screamed at the sight of the creature, but before he could ask for help, the dragon incinerated him with a fire breath.
I guess I could get used to this, thought Andrew as he looked at the warehouse and saw the muggers that killed him dead by his hand.
I'm naked! Andrew thought with shame once he saw the destroyed remains of his clothes. I cannot return to the orphanage with no clothes. But neither can I use clothes that cannot tolerate my dragon form.
He created a mirror out of thin air and made special adjustable clothes for himself. He put on sport clothing: shirt, pants, sneakers, and gloves. He was a little unsatisfied with some discomforts of his dragon form so he changed them a little bit. His tail was a little high above the butt to prevent problems with his pants, the claws of his hands and feet were exposed by little holes on his sneakers and gloves, and his wings came out of the exposed ends of his shirt.
A dragon is good and evil in many cultures, thought Andrew as he analyzed his form with more detail, trying to find more corrections on his appearance. The wings of this form resemble a demon's. I need something to make me look good too. He thought of several famous dragons and remembered Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent. He closed his eyes and materialized angel wings under his demon wings.
"Perfect," he said upon seeing his new appearance in the mirror. Although he was large humanoid dragon he made sure that this body was on scale with his human body. If there were humanoid dragons in this world then they'll see a thirteen year old kid with average physical condition instead of the monster the humans saw.
Andrew closed his eyes and imagined himself in his human body wearing his old clothes and no injuries or mementos of his day. He walked all the way to the orphanage and saw that it had only been an hour since he left.
"Hello, Andrew," greeted him the headmistress with a comforting smile on her face. "How was your day? Did you have a great time?"
Andrew looked to the left side of the orphanage, remembering the beat down he suffered a few moments ago. That was the bad thing that happened to him. He looked to the right side and remembered how he became a god and used his powers to avenge himself.
"It was a normal day," shuddered Andrew as he walked up the stairs and went back to sleep with his friends.
The next day, Andrew was suddenly adopted by a mysterious man with the surname Valence. He had walked to Andrew and they both spoke to each other as if they were old friends. After some socializing, Valence adopted Andrew as his son and led him to his car. After saying his final goodbyes to the headmistress, his friends, and enemies, Andrew entered Valence's car and let himself be drove away into his new home. A special location, where his new father would teach him how to use the powers he gave him that day. Andrew realized that his adoption was a good thing and the responsibilities that came from his powers would be a bad thing. Once again, despite his adoption, it turned out to be a normal day for him.
This is a one-shot of a story that I plan to make. It's about a boy who obtains the ultimate magic that makes him a god due to him possessing a unique heart. I hope you enjoy the story.
